The Fight for Polluter Accountability

A growing number of communities are bringing the fossil fuel industry to court to answer for its decades of climate denial and deception and recover the mounting costs of climate adaptation.

The Fight for Polluter Accountability: Congress and Climate Litigation will discuss this call to hold climate polluters accountable, and the respective opportunities provided by the Congress and the courts.

- Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-08), chair of the first congressional hearing on the oil industry's history of climate denial last fall
- District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine, who filed a consumer protection case against oil majors in June 2020
- Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina, who filed a cost recovery case against oil majors in July 2017
- Attorney Pamela Gilbert, experienced advocate for consumer protection and access to the courts

This event is hosted by the Center for Climate Integrity (CCI) and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN). CCI, a project of the Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development, helps cities and states across the country hold corporate polluters accountable for the massive impacts of climate change. CCAN is the first grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to fighting global warming in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
