Climate Week NYC Partners with Global Citizen to Amplify Youth Voices in Climate Activism
July 18, 2019 – New York, NY – Climate Week NYC 2019 is partnering with international advocacy organization Global Citizen for its Youth and Climate Activism Program. The program will reflect the global leadership of young people and its influence on climate action and align with the Youth and Public Mobilization theme of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit.
Global Citizen is a movement of engaged citizens who are using their collective voice to end extreme poverty by 2030. The Global Citizen Festival takes place on the Great Lawn of Central Park in September and will bring together volunteers and activists who have acted to achieve the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
The Youth and Climate Activism Program partnership provides opportunities to Global Citizens to create, attend and support events and activities taking place as part of Climate Week NYC. A major advertising campaign promoting objectives of the campaign will launch in late August.
Michael Sheldrick, Vice President of Global Policy and Government Affairs at Global Citizen, said,
“A healthy planet takes care of its people. Healthy people take care of the planet. Today’s youth are leading the charge on protecting both people and planet from catastrophic climate change, and through our partnership with Climate Week NYC, we are excited to equip them with the tools and resources to effect more change through the Youth and Climate Activism Program. 2020 will be a pivotal year to catalyze efforts to protect the Earth’s food sources, water and air in order to help protect the people who live on it. A renewed focus on the environment and climate is truly at the forefront of giving people the opportunity to survive and thrive in a world free of extreme poverty.”
Climate Week NYC 2019, taking place September 23-29, is the biggest Climate Week event in the world. It is run by The Climate Group annually in coordination with the United Nations and the City of New York.
Helen Clarkson, CEO of The Climate Group, said,
“Throughout Climate Week NYC, over 150 official events will take place all over the city and will attract influential business and government leaders from around the world. Event organizers in the past have included policymakers, international businesses, academic institutions, museums, community groups, and NGOs. The Youth and Climate Activism Program will bring together a number of events specifically focused on engaging and working with young people seeking to engage in climate action and will be the lead focus for Climate Week NYC 2019.”
Climate Week NYC 2019 is being supported by Salesforce, the global CRM leader, as its Headline Partner.
“Young leaders are stepping up across the world, calling on everyone to join them on their mission to create a cleaner and healthier planet for future generations,” said Suzanne DiBianca, Chief Impact Officer and EVP of Corporate Relations at Salesforce. “As business leaders, NGOs, and government officials, we must work together and use our influence to step up and help catalyze impactful change.”
