The ISO 14097 standard, planned for 2019 will provide technical guidance to financial institutions on climate-related metrics, in line with the recommendations of the TCFD, the provisions of Article 173 in France, and other climate-related disclosure requirements in preparation. The related working group has been launched in January 2017, and is co-convened by Stan Dupré (CEO of 2° Investing Initiative – commissioned by AFNOR) and Massamba Thioye (UNFCCC secretariat), with AFNOR acting as secretariat.
The overarching objective of ISO 14097 is to create the international standard for assessing and reporting
investments and financing activities related to climate change, including:
• The impact of investment and lending decisions on GHG emissions;
• Alignment of investment and financing decisions with climate goals; and
• The value at risk for owners of financial assets (e.g. private equity, listed stocks, bonds, loans) arising
from international climate-related risks.
The event will allow participants to be briefed about the project and meet the members of the working group. The co-conveners will notably present the first output of the group: ‘a landscape review’ that maps the needs of
financial institutions, takes stock of existing guidance, analyses the gaps and suggest options and priorities for ISO 14097.
